Video: Space monster/Venus flytrap

Another origami by Jeremy Shafer, known as venus flytrap or space monster. It’s a complicated action model, when pulled from the “leafs” or tentacles, whichever you prefer, it opens its mouth.

Diagrams from Jeremy’s website and video after the break.

Where do you get your papers? Is it regular colored paper? Please respond.

@Anonymous: yes, it’s normal colored paper, I don’t have any special origami paper.

Sorry i’m off topic, but, maybe you should make a section about reccomended books. My favorites are Brillant Origami, by Dave Brill, and Origami to Astonish and Amuse[Jeremy Shafer]

@Warren: sorry, but since I cannot take a look to these books myself it wouldn’t be a personal recommendation and I favor digital media anyways, so there won’t be such section.

Im just curious how many tries it takes for you to get it perfect and memorized for the videos?

  14. Karl says:May 1st, 2008 at 21:43

@Chris: about one, but for harder models I keep the diagrams open while I’m folding. I usually forget them quickly though, except models that I really like.

i love origami, Ive been doing it since third grade, im still not nearly as good as you all though. i still cant figure out one of the last steps, where, in Jeremy Shaffer’s book, the “gums”are made, ive made 2 failed attempts, so i consulted this video, i think it’ll help a lot
