A fairly easy modular by Dennis Walker.

A fairly easy modular by Dennis Walker. Enneagonal since it has 9 angles, but it’s actually a nonagon which stands for 9 sides.

It holds together all right since all the modules are solidly interlocked.

Paper to use

I used thicker paper to make it, but I think normal paper would be better. You need 9 square papers to do it, 3 of each color.

A flat box that reminds a bonsai vase.

A rather flat box that reminds a bonsai vase, made by Katrin Shumakov. It requires a lot of precreasing, and it’s quite difficult, I hope you can understand from the diagrams and the video.

I made one with a 20cm square paper and one with 10cm. It’s actually very sturdy and looks very nice, tough I’m not convinced it will hold a bonsai.

On the authors website you can see some good examples made with 2 colored paper.

Paper to use

One single square paper. I used a 20cm wide paper. You get the best results with white on one side and colored on the other.

Diagrams

Found on Katrin’s website.

A modular box by Robin Glynn.

A modular box by Robin Glynn. I made one of these a while ago, but couldn’t get it to hold together. I wouldn’t recommend trying to do this from the video, you should take look at the diagrams before doing anything.

This model is very unstable, unless you use glue or some adhesive tape.

I tried to make the lid, but the modules didn’t hold together as well as I wanted, so I didn’t film that.

Paper to use

6 square papers for the box and 6 for the lid, same size.

Diagrams

The diagrams are on Robin Glynn’s website.

Box with a lid made out of a single square paper, by Marc Vigo Anglada.

A box with a lid made out of a single square paper. It’s not as pretty as the square box with lid, but it can come handy.

What I personally really like in this model is the integrated lid. Since the corners are locked and the lid holds itself on the box by interlocking the four parts it won’t open without somebody wanting to open it.

A useful origami by Marc Vigo Anglada.

Paper to use

One single square paper.

A modular box with its lid, by Tomoko Fuse.

A modular box with its lid, by Tomoko Fuse. This one is harder and takes much longer to make than my other box, but it looks much better. You’ll need 4 square papers for the main box and another 4 for the lid, all the same size.

When doing the lid, the paper isn’t folded exactly in the center, this is to allow the lid to be a little bigger than the box so it fits over it.

Paper to use

A total of 8 square paper of the same size.

Diagrams

You can find this box and a lot of other interesting things in Tomoko Fuse’s book Fabulous Origami Boxes (Tomoko Fuse).

A useful and easy origami, make a box out of a single piece paper.

A very useful and easy origami, the box will always come handy when you need some organization, gift wrapping, or whatnot. You can use any paper format to make one of these, in the video I used an A4 format. It doesn’t come out perfectly square, if that’s what you’re looking for use a 15:10 ratio paper format (cut it yourself).

You can also make a lid in the same way, but you have to measure precisely the dimensions of the paper for the lid, once you fold this one once it’ll be much easier to understand.

Paper to use

Any, really, it doesn’t matter what size. I used A4, but feel free to use whatever paper you find.

Diagrams

I diagrammed this one myself since I didn’t remember from where I learned it or who was the original author.
