Video: Nine-sided (enneagonal) box

A fairly easy modular by Dennis Walker. Enneagonal since it has 9 angles, but it’s actually a nonagon which stands for 9 sides. I used thicker paper and let a hole in the middle of the box, but I guess it doesn’t have to be water proof. You can also make a lid for it, everything is documented here, search for “enneagonal box”. Video after the break.

Bonsai box

A magnificent origami bonsai box made by Katrin Shumakov. At first it looks easy, with all the pre-creasing, but there’s a difficult part to it, I hope you can understand it from the diagrams and the video. I made one with a 20cm square paper and one with 10cm. It’s actually very sturdy and looks nice, tough I’m not convinced it will hold a bonsai.

On the authors site you can see one made with a rose/yellow paper, the great thing is that the inside and the upper border will remain yellow whereas the exterior will be rose.

Star box

A nice modular box by Robin Glynn. I made one of these a while ago, but couldn’t get it to hold together. I wouldn’t recommend trying to do this from the video, you should take look at the diagrams before doing anything. I tried to do the lid, but the modules didn’t hold together as well as I wanted, so I didn’t film that.

The diagrams are over here and the video is after the break.

Box-lid

Here’s a box with a lid made out of a single square paper. It’s not as pretty as the square box with lid, but it can come handy. The corners are cleverly locked and the lid holds itself on the box by interlocking the four lid parts. A useful origami by Marc Vigo Anglada.

Diagrams here and the video is after the break.

Box with lid

A modular box with its lid, by Tomoko Fuse. This one is harder and takes much longer to make than my other box, but it’s much nicer. You’ll need 4 square papers for the main box and another 4 for the lid, all the same size.

When doing the lid, notice that the paper isn’t folded in the center, this is to allow it to be bigger than the box.

Box

A very useful origami to know, make a box out of an A4 format paper. You can make a lid with a slightly bigger box or use this one as the lid and make a smaller box, cut off the edges of the paper before folding and voilĂ . Diagrams over here and video after the break.
